INTENSIVE PRODUCTION OF BERRY FRUITS IN PROTECTED ENVIRONMENTS – New Trends and Challenges

The course will be held from February 22nd to 24th, 2023.

AgroNET – Center for Education and Research, in collaboration with the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Belgrade, has developed a specialized course titled “Intensive Production of Berry Fruits in Protected Environments – New Trends and Challenges” to meet the expressed needs of fruit producers. The course is designed for participants involved in commercial berry fruit production. Through interactive lectures, exercises, practical examples, and organized visits to production facilities, participants will acquire contemporary knowledge and innovative approaches. The challenges posed by climate change will be a central theme, and the lectures will highlight the challenges brought about by climate change and present modern solutions applied in production and product preservation to mitigate its negative effects.

The first and second days of the course are designed to introduce participants to fundamental concepts and knowledge related to protected environments, covering materials, and microclimate regulation within them, as well as management of irrigation and fertigation systems. Participants will also engage in practical exercises. The lectures will cover the following topics: Contemporary technology for berry fruit production in protected environments, Experiences, challenges, and issues in raspberry production in Serbia – a producer’s perspective, Contemporary technology for raspberry production in protected environments, Biostimulants in berry fruit production, Contemporary technology for blueberry production in protected environments, Protection of berry fruits from diseases and pests, Berry fruit sales.

Networking opportunities will be provided at the end of the first day, allowing participants to introduce themselves, present their companies, and establish connections. On the second day, a roundtable discussion will enable participants to exchange opinions and experiences with each other and the speakers.

The third day of the course is reserved for visits to two producers engaged in intensive production of blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries using modern technologies.

Thanks to the support of the USAID EDGE project, the course offers a discounted price for participants based on the research of their needs.

Option 1 – The registration fee for the entire course is 9,500.00 Serbian dinars, which includes course materials, a certificate, meals (lunch, coffee breaks, refreshments) for all three days, as well as organized transportation for the visits to selected facilities. Participants are responsible for their own travel expenses, accommodation, and personal expenses during the course.

Option 2 – Participants who are interested in attending only a portion of the course can choose to pay a registration fee of 5,000.00 Serbian dinars for the selected day. This fee includes course materials, a certificate, meals (lunch, coffee breaks, refreshments), and organized transportation for the visits to selected facilities. Participants are responsible for their own travel expenses, accommodation, and personal expenses during that period.

Participants who wish to stay at the Royal Spa Hotel in Banja Koviljača will be offered a privileged accommodation rate. When making a reservation, please indicate that you are a participant of the course organized by AgroNET.

The number of participants is limited to 35.

Priority in registration and guaranteed placement in the course will be given to participants who register first and pay the necessary fee – registration fee.
